In Between

I recently spent three days in a hotel ballroom for a meeting. There is something about hotel ballrooms that can suck the life out of a person, yet sometimes they are truly the best place to meet. It was also one of those meetings that had the potential to suck the life out of a person with wall-to-wall information, literally and figuratively. There was so much important information to cover with very little free space in the schedule. Yet the meeting organizers realized that not only were the sessions important, but the space between the sessions was also important. During the in-between times, people connected with one another, figured out how to apply the information, or simply let it all soak in.

In-between times are important. This meeting itself fell in an in-between time for me, moving from one show to the next as a professional actress. It's time to acknowledge the end of one experience and get ready for the beginning of another.

Whether you transition from one job to the next or just one conversation to the next, you need a proportionate pause in-between. How can you build in more in-between times? How can you better use the in-between times that you have?
